We took the opportunity to spend a week in such a luxurious yet off grid cabin recently. Way up in the hills above LLangollen, Wales. We stayed in one of the unique and tranquil cabins offered by Shacks whom have hidden away cabins like this throughout the UK.

The founders have thought of everything to make each cabin a magical experience not just with the accommodation itself but also with the location. Complex structures that are each designed to the location they are placed.
Very secluded with amazing views, a perfect size that blends them in to the surroundings yes, with the luxuries you need whilst being off-grid technologically.
Goose above Llangollen
So, where was our off-grid home for the week? Well it was in their cabin named ‘Goose’ perched on a hill overlooking the picturesque welsh town of Llangollen.
Close enough yet so far from civilisation. Driving out of the town, up and up and up. Up to the hilltops then off track to the top of the hill itself and wow! I can tell you that your jaw will drop even before you step foot in the cabin itself.
As you step inside you see the bed with windows looking out in all directions.
Waking up every morning brought us a totally different scene. From wide open clear views down the valley to being up above magical cloud inversions and morning mist.
You can see your week of adventures right there laid out before you. The view is so inspiring.
Not only is the location very special but inside the cabin you really feel the care and attention that has been made to create these wondrous cabin escapes.
I love my coffee and I spotted the coffee beans and grinder straight away. Yummy! These weren’t just any old coffee beans.
You are off grid remember so there is no plug sockets to let technology get in the way of your relaxation. Solar power ensures you have lights. Plus there is a gas bottle that allows you to have a wondrous hot shower after a day hiking or to cook on the hob.
The shack is very eco friendly and that follows right through to the toilet which is compost and no flush. It worked a treat and one of the best examples I have used to be very honest.
We found the Shack to be very warm and cosy but you also have the joy of a wood burner to settle down by in the evenings whilst you drink, play games or gaze out at the views.
If you do really want to stay on grid a bit then you jut need to bring power packs to charge your phones etc. The cabin has a radio cassette player with rechargable batteries ready for you.
The dogs don’t miss out either with a great supply of surprsise treats for them awaiting too along with some of our own walking snacks.
Even with 2 adults and 3 dogs, the size felt perfect. The dogs felt immediately comfortable and we felt immediately at home. It was definitely our kind of place to stay.
Outside the shack door there is a fenced off area for sitting outside or letting the dogs enjoy some fresh air whilst you have a coffee or watch the sunset over the surrounding hills.
Conclusion
Shacks have taken off grid escapism and taken it to another level. Their locations are thought out in great depth so you have it all. The views, the sense of escapism and places to adventure nearby.
Each of their cabins are made and fitted out with comfort and tranquility in mind whilst allowing you to feel away from it all with no distractions, except for the incredible views.
